Hey Friends,
You know how on some shows they have that "clip show" just a mix of clips? That's us this week, I get some great e-mails and I like to share. So I'll try and keep this interesting, it is sort of a clip show though. Enjoy it! life, love, laughter, TC
"hey you talked about Vampire Weekend and they went to #1 coincidence?"
No coincidence. Everyone reads this and then and goes and buys what I babble about. No, just kidding, it's a great record, and it deserves to be #1. As far as I know, only one person bought a record that I've babbled about here and that was Matisyahu "LIVE AT STUBBS" (which, still holds up, just great, fun, live music). Since I got this e-mail I was trying to think of the last time any of the bands I really like went to #1, and all I could think of was either Jay Z's "unplugged" (featuring THE ROOTS) or perhaps even further back with Nirvana's "In Utero", which was a REALLY long time ago. By the way I'm going to watch the NIRVANA "Live at Reading" dvd tonight, I hear great things.
"I think you should do a documentary about me -- it's a story about a nerdy computer engineer for Intel who goes on to become a professional comedian and tours the world."
I agree, you do need a documentary! There are great film folks out there , so if anyone wants to do this project, you really should! He's here….let me know how it works out!
Here's Dan's link this would be SOME STORY! "Starting out, what day job is the best to be able to do both?" Great question, and I'm not sure we've ever talked about this. This is where you want to get creative. This is a business where you'll get a call at noon and say "can you screen test at 3?" more times than not though you get a day's notice "hey you're in NYC tomorrow to do this…." so you need something with some flexibility. When I started out, a buddy of mine named Jason worked overnight stocking shelves at a grocery store, that way he had every day free. Sometimes he'd skip sleep, but he did very well, and won some pretty big success, so his non sleep days really did work out. Some folks bartend or wait tables, because sometimes those are shifts you can switch around to allow more flexibility. I did this job where I worked 40 hours in 3 days….Friday night, 11pm-7a, Saturday 3pm-7am the next morning and then back Sunday at 3pm to 7am Monday morning. It was tough on your body (3 straight days of sleep deprivation) but this gave me all 5 weekdays free. I still ran into scheduling conflicts at times (like I was in Miami filming a commercial from Monday to Friday…and then booked another commercial that filmed that Friday night into Saturday morning in North Jersey…that was awesome, but pretty tough with the "day job") and there were days I'd leave at 7am Monday after not sleeping and then film for the next 3 or 4 days….the most zombie like I ever got was I think 5 straight days…..Monday 7am I'd finished working 16 straight hours….in NY by 10am, for filming….then knocked out 3 straight 16 hour shoot days, Thursday and Friday I filmed the soap and I think I squeezed in a day role on a prime time show then too (calling out that Friday night at the day job and rolling in at 3pm the next day after skipping more sleep). So it was 3 shows in about 6 days. But wow, never again. After that 3rd or 4th day your memory gets hazy and your body really starts to ache
(so if you can do something better than how I did it, please do try it!) So this was a long answer to a short question. Any job that gives you the flexibility you need to travel and work on your craft. Best of luck!
"what's next? Leaf 2?"
Leaf 2, could be pretty interesting don't you think? Ryan leaving coaching working with his lawyers, Junior Seau moving on to Miami and then New England and jamming on the ukelele, Trent Dilfer moving on to TV? Peyton Manning moving on to play in another superbowl? I'd see Leaf 2! Even a poster! Unfortunately, it's not on the schedule. Maybe if LEAF 1 finally gets released by the NFL? Next we have "Detectives" (and future episodes) and hopefully a little project or two in the spring. Philly gave us an award last year on something I'd written and that'd be a lot of fun to get in front of some cameras. Right now there are bigger things up in the air, but it's those little projects I really do have the most fun with.
"why are you still on my space? what is this 2006?"
hahah well said sir. I love it here. I'm on all the other ones too, but I like this as a home base. I like the bands, the stand ups, the clips folks can share. It feels very "community" for me, and I dig the artistic vibe of it. But I do link up to all the other ones here:

"Will Mark McGraw be at the sneak peek in February?" You know, this isn't the first e-mail I've gotten on something Mark McGraw-related. I'm impressed with his fan base. I even got a note from overseas about him! As it stands, I hope so, we all worked out our schedules before the screening was set up….so hoping he'll make it. I'll confirm it for you as soon as I can. Thanks for the e-mail, McGraw-Nation is a great bunch, and hope you all come out to the show on 2/27, you're all always welcome at these screenings (please wear your navy blue blazers like Mark does in the show!) Plus Mark is really great in the show and if/when we film more episodes, we'll have lots of fun Mark storylines. Speaking of which
(PLUG) the sneak peek is at THE CUBE, 16 Marrows Road, Newark, DE 19713 at 6pm (the time has changed it's 6pm!)
"I'm tired of being snowed in, any ideas of drinks I can make?"
Always! Bartending was another one of the "day jobs" try this, tell your household "I'm making a cuba libre", it sounds fancy, but it's just rum, coke and lime juice. But what will make it fancy is the light rum you'll use (try something light and tropical) and however much lime juice you throw in. make it look fancy and enjoy it, it'll give some tropical love to your snow day. Drink up, be merry and take care, TC
